Research roots, maritime partnerships and a long development arc
Vidusayura is a research outcome of the modeling and simulation group of UCSC. The modeling and simulation group was initially formed in 2008 and consists of personnel from UCSC, the Department of Physics of the University of Colombo and the Sri Lanka Navy.
Currently, the modeling and simulation group of UCSC collaboratively carries out various research and development activities with national and international organizations.
The success of this collaborative work is highlighted by 30+ research papers published by the group and numerous national and international awards. According to the UCSC corporate plan 2011/12-2015/16, the modeling and simulation group of UCSC is responsible for several activities that create a collaborative research culture.

Operational use and platform foundation
Vidusayura ship handling simulator has been successfully deployed at the Ocean University of Sri Lanka and it is used for maritime teaching and learning activities. Another forked version of Vidusayura was deployed at naval headquarters, Sri Lanka and it is used for demonstrations.
Vidusayura development was based on the OGRE3D rendering engine. It is a scene-oriented, flexible 3D engine written in C++ designed to make it easier and more intuitive for developers to produce applications utilizing hardware-accelerated 3D graphics.
